This one came out of left field for me. I work at WD in the Lawn and Garden section. Yesterday, an older gentleman came in from the main store, glared at a display of Hyper Tough lawnmowers for $247, and yelled at me from across the department.

"Your price is wrong! These are $9.95!" I trotted over. "I'm...I'm sorry? What do you mean?"
  • 04
"It's on F ]! W t's selling these for $9.95, and I came in here to get one! I expect to get it at that price!"
  • 05
"I...have not heard of this? What exactly are you talking about?"

Seems there's a scam post going around the Book of Face, showing a Hyper Tough Lawnmower with a Walmart sign at $9.95. He holds up his phone triumphantly, showing me the 'ad.' I pulled mine out to check this out. Meanwhile,

old dude is muttering that I'm obviously wrong, and he'd expect a corporation like WD to keep up on these prices.

I finally found the post, and showed him. "Yeah, this is unfortunately incorrect, sir. It's a scam. These are quite common on F

"Oh, horse ! This is real! It's a W I ad!" "No, sir, it's a Super Offer fake Ad. Says that right here. Nothing to do with WO

I'm a cashier, I don't get paid to deal with boomers, delusions, or scams. I grab the radio, walk away from grumpy boomer, and explain the situation to one of the store managers. I keep the scam pulled up on my phone, and move to intercept the manager when he walks in, to just make sure he's fully informed.

Fifteen minutes. FIFTEEN MINUTES. It took a quarter of a freakin' hour to get this old dude to leave, after being told in no uncertain terms he would not be getting a lawnmower for $10. He screamed, he ranted, he challenged my manager to 'meet him in the parking lot' after work.

He demanded to speak to the store manager. (thankfully, he wasn't there that day, but only thankfully because I actually like him, and seeing him get verbally abused p me off)

Finally, Boomer dude stormed off, giving us the double bird salute, and hit the automatic doors so hard they popped from the frame.

My manager looked at me, shook his head, and said, "Just...just go take an extra break. What a phenomenal a "I

So, moral of the story is: If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't. No matter how much you babout it.

NB_Gwen 15 hr. ago The second it went to "meet me in the parking lot" is when the boomer should have been banned from the store for life. Call the cops and a patron is threatening v towards an employee and he is no longer allowed in the store otherwise they will be charged with trespassing... that is what needed to happen.

Puzzled-Peanut-7147 16 hr. ago $10 lawn mower, seems legit.

    • iced_gold 16 hr. ago He screamed, he ranted, he challenged my manager to 'meet him in the parking lot' after work. That's odd. Why didn't he simply try to offer a firm handshake and confident eye contact. Surely he could have gotten them to honor the price that way.

kevinhaddon 15 hr. ago The gangster move would be to tell him you already sold out of all the $9.95 lawnmowers and that he could try again tomorrow. Then rinse and repeat each day.
